Ezra Arvis Young, age 87, of White Oak Road, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born Saturday, January 6, 1923 in Casey County, he was a son of the late Joseph Walter and Esther Ada Lawless Young. Arvis enjoyed working and was a farmer, school bus driver, car mechanic, carpenter and worked in a saw mill. He was a long time member of Mt. Freeman Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for more than 50 years. He was the widower of Alma T. Plumer Young after 56 years of marriage.
Survivors include daughters, Jacquelyn (Karl) Wagner of Junction City and Phyllis Young of Danville; sons, Warren and Barry Young, both of Junction City and Randall Young of Danville; brothers, Vernon Young of Harrodsburg, Stanley Young of Burgin, and Heston Young of Junction City; sister, Eva Hendren of Danville; grandchildren, Chad (Eden) Williams of Muir Beach, CA, Jeanna Kristal (David) Summers of Danville; and Anneliese (Greg) Compton of Knoxville, TN; and great-grandchildren, J.T., Jacob, and Ezra Summers, all of Danville, and Sayla and Vaughn Williams of Muir Beach, CA.
An Appreciation of Life service will be 1 PM Monday, March 15, 2010 at Mt. Freeman Baptist Church with Bros. Steve Owens and Bill Rhodus officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 PM Sunday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home and 11 AM until time of service Monday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Karl Wagner, David Summers, Chad Williams, Greg Compton, Hugh Lynch, and Richard Covey. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Men’s Sunday School class, Dr. David Overstreet, Dr. Tariq Muhammad, Morris, Sam and Eddie Martin, Alan and Bruce King, and Conley Wilkerson.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation.
