  • Babette Sheene: Memmaw,
I will miss you so much, but one thing God has promised me is that we will be together again in His big mansion. I will miss doing your hair and our little chats and the things you would do and say to make me laugh. We will be there for your little boy, our daddy. Rest in Peace pretty lady. I love you.

  • Mike Hatfield: "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty? A stranger or naked? When did we take you in and feed you, clothe you, house you and love you?"

"When you did it to the least of these, you did it unto me." (paraphrase of Matthew 25)

If ever anyone took us all in when we needed it, it was Mammy. It was as simple as cooking, or playing cards, or gardening, or drinking coffee, or pointing her finger at us, or simply loving us when we needed to be loved.

I have seldom met anyone tougher, more loving and more giving than Hazel Hatfield. The best news is that if each of us who were blessed to be her grandchildren will return the same, God knows who else will be blessed in years to come.

Mammy, may you enjoy finally seeing Poppy and J.C. again.
