George Mellios Obituary

George Gust Mellios, 78, of Danville, passed away on October 3, 2019 at Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington. He was born on January 26, 1941 in Chicago, Ill., to the late Gust T. and Barbara Stephanides Mellios. George is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Murphy Mellios, and is preceded in death by two sisters, Alyce Kedziora (late Joseph) and Lola Shattuck (late Maurice).
 
George was a Distribution and Logistics executive for the likes of Sears, Beecham Products, Entré Computers and NYNEX before transitioning to university athletics in Memphis, Tenn.  He was a faithful and beloved member of First Christian Church.
 
Surviving are two children, Jane Mellios Watkins (Jesse) of Lexington and Jennifer Mellios Archer (Chris) of Washington; four grandchildren, Jordan Watkins, Vaughn Archer, Jack Archer and James “Bear” Archer; two sisters, Betsy Doumas (Bob) of Michigan and Kathryn Valavanis DeVaris (Jerry) of Illinois, as well as many nieces and nephews.
 
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 18, 2019 at First Christian Church with Rev. Joey Pusateri officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am until time of service and a reception will follow.
 
Memorial contributions are preferred to First Christian Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
