Margaret McGill Obituary

Margaret K. (Gray) McGill, lovingly nick-named "Granny Girl" by her grandson, Chris Pope, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday afternoon, March 30, 2019 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Kentucky. Margaret was 99 years old and was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.

She was born in Danville, Kentucky on January 24, 1920 to Georgia and Henry Gray. 

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of over 30 years, Eugene McGill, her parents, Georgia and Henry Gray, one step son, Jeffrey McGill, two sisters, Nannie S. Gray and Bertha May Napier, three brothers, Henry Gray, Garnett Gray and John Paul Gray, one daughter in law, Kitty McGill (Norman) and one grandson, Joseph Wilhite. 

She is survived by two daughters, Doris Jean (James) and Patricia; three sons, Leroy (Betty), Garnett (Dorsey) and Norman, one step-daughter, Jean Ann (Billy) and one step son, Macco; twenty-three grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great grandchildren.

She attended Bate School in her early years and was a member of First Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was an employee at One Hour Cleaners. Margaret was well known for her cooking which she was able to showcase while working at Danville Cafeteria and the Boyle County Jail from which she retired.

Margaret had a love like no other for her children and grandchildren. She had a special bond with all of them and will be greatly missed by each and every one of them.

Funeral services will be 1PM Friday, April 5, 2019 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Darrick Briscoe officiating. Visitation will be from 11AM-1PM on Friday at First Baptist Church. A private burial will be held at Hilldale Cemetery.
