Morris McGirr Obituary

Morris McGirr, 89, of Danville, passed away March 5, 2019 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was born September 7, 1929 to the late James Madison and Amanda Pearl Hughes McGirr. Morris is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dottie Brewer McGirr. 

He served in the Korean conflict from 1948-1952 aboard the Destroyer Samuel B. Roberts. He lived and worked in Ohio for 16 years, returned to Kentucky where he worked and retired from Signet after 20 years. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he was a trustee. He was known for his daylilies and irises. Morris was an avid fan of UK basketball and football. He loved and adored his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Along with his wife, Dottie, surviving is a son, Steven Allen McGirr (Connie) of Garrard County; three daughters, Beverly McGirr of Danville, Debbie Reynolds (Gene) of Garrard County and Donna Turner of Danville, a daughter in law, Betty Lemonds; twenty grandchildren, thirty five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. 
Morris is preceded in death by his parents, son, Russell Lemonds, an infant daughter, four brothers, Roy, James, Pat, and Gene McGirr; four sisters, Elsie Carter, Blanche Gaddis, Lela Whitson, and Agatha Mcgirr. 

Funeral services 2PM Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Our Savior Lutheran Church officiated by Pastor David Whitten. Burial will follow in McGirr-Sandage Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 6-8PM at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home and from 1-2PM Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Our Savior Lutheran Church. 

Pallbearers will be Travis, Mike and Tyler McGirr, Bradley and Bryan Cummins, Justin Eaton, and Jeremy Lemonds.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jessie, Lyndsey, Krista, Sydney, and Alyvia McGirr, Misty Wilson, and Brooke Lemonds Rouse.

Memorial contributions are preferred to Our Savior Lutheran Church Building Fund  285 N Hill N Dale St. Danville, Kentucky 40422.
