Ernest D. ‘Ernie’ Moore, age 89 (a Waynetown native) of Danville, KY, passed away in Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, KY, Thursday evening, October 9, 2025 following complications of a stroke. He was born in Hillsboro, IN May 26, 1936 son of the late Donald and Elsie Ingersol Moore. He married JoAnn Blair and she preceded him in death December 2019.
Ernie was raised on a farm, across the road from the Sugar Camp, just outside of Waynetown. Ernie graduated from Waynetown High School, received a BS from Eastern Kentucky State College and was a veteran of the US Air Force.
He was an auditor and spent his career as a civilian employee of the military, working under the Office of Inspector General. He spent several years working in Albuquerque, NM before transferring to Danville, KY. Following his retirement, he officiated golf tournaments and operated a golf club repair shop. He enjoyed attending antique car shows and golfing.
Ernie and his wife lost an infant daughter and he is survived by several local friends who were like his family.
Graveside services will be held at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 15, 2025 with Pastor Terry Thompson officiating. Memorial contributions in his memory are preferred to Small Church USA.
