Jack L. Shepherd, 84, of Danville passed away on December 3, 2024. He was born on March 9, 1940 to the late Ancil and Emma Shepherd. Jack is survived by his loving wife Mary Shepherd.
Jack was born in Somerset, KY to Ancil and Emma Shepherd. Before graduating high school he joined the National Guard. He went on to join the US Army where he served our country for more than 20 years, obtaining his highest rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his tenure in the military, he proudly served as an OCS instructor. Among many accolades, he was awarded multiple medals of honor. He proudly retired from his miltary service in 1988.
Jack obtained his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Union College. He furthered his post-graduate education at Eastern Kentucky and Centre College.
He held multiple civilian job titles through out his life including working for American Greetings, various titles through automobile sales and services, and most notably a Corrections Officer at Northpoint Training Center.
Jack enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, collecting guns and coins, travelling, and spending time with his family which included his cherished Yorkie dogs.
In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by two sons, Hugh Logan Shepherd of St. Louis, MO and Brian (Sherene) Cool of San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Lisa (Mark) Bauder; a brother, Donald Shepherd; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Will) Guinn, Kelsie (Chris) Redding and Jordan Cool; and two great-grandchildren Carter Redding and Kipton Redding all of Danville, KY.
Jack was preceded in death by a brother, Matthew Shepherd.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 6, 2024 at the Presbyterian Church of Danville with Pastor Sean Gladding officiating. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mark Bauder, Hugh Logan Shepherd, Chris Redding, Will Guinn, Alan Shepherd and John Kelso.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kipton Redding and Carter Redding.
