John (Jim) J. Kelley III, 84, was born in Portland, Maine on August 24, 1939, the son of Eunice Kelley Olesen and John J Kelley Jr. He graduated from Westbrook High School in Westbrook, Maine and then served four years in the US Air Force, based in Tucson and England. He earned a Masters Degree from Gorham State, University of Maine and additional credits from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA. He was a classroom teacher in Maine and a teaching principal and principal in Massachusetts. He left education in 1979 and moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he was an Administrative Manager for the Clerk's Office of Maricopa County Superior Court. His next employment was as a Clerks Office Divisional Manager for the US Bankruptcy Court in Alexandria, VA. Upon moving to NH, he worked for the Supreme Court Administrative Offices for the State of New Hampshire as a Procurement Officer for all the state courts. He retired and moved to Kentucky in 2009.
Jim attended LABC, a church he loved. He volunteered on the Soups On Us team; assisted in assembling church bulletins when called; he also worked on assembling The Key for a few years. He was a member of the Servants Sunday School Class and loved his classmates.
He was an avid runner and cyclist for many years, and enjoyed playing guitar.
John (Jim) is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Patricia (Allen) Kelley; son, Patrick R Kelley of Hendersonville, TN; daughter Erin (Horacio) Jarquin of Alexandria, VA; a granddaughter, Briana Kelley of Warsaw, Indiana; two nephews, Scott (Dana) Schumaker of Marion, VA and Joseph (Gini) Schumaker of Gaithersburg, MD.; and two special cousins, Merrill and Rick Kelley, both of Maine.
Funeral services will be 12:00PM on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Basil Hall officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00AM - 12:00PM on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Kelley, Horacio Jarquin, Dewain Burton, Richie Shepperson, Bernard Montgomery, and Jason Sholtz. Honorary pallbearers will be the Servants Sunday School Class of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church.
