Lester Patton

Lester Patton Sr. answered the call to eternal rest on Monday November 10, 2025. He was born June 4, 1937, in Liberty, KY to the late Marshall and Edith Wilkinson Patton. He attended Indian Creek School in Casey County. Lester accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Mt. Salem - Indian Creek. Lester enjoyed golf, flying airplanes, hunting and working in the yard. Early in his career with the Inter County RECC, where he worked for over 40 years, breaking racial barriers, Lester became the first African American hired to the Right of Way Crew, where he advanced to construction superintendent. He also worked at The Kentucky School for the Deaf, Park-Belk’s, Clay and Clay Attorney at Law and other companies over the years as a custodian.

Preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Ms. Bettie Wilhite Patton, a son Kendall Patton, brothers, Donald Ray, Clifford, and James Patton, sisters, Wilma Gooch, Gladys Bridgewater, Wilhelemenia Crawford, and Beulah Horry.

Lester leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Lester Patton Jr., Raymond (Toni) Patton, and George Patton, daughters, Dawanna Logan Patton, Tamikia (Brandy) Patton and stepdaughter, Sandra Steele; grandchildren Daneezia Patton, Kinyatta Patton, Serita Steele, Lashondria Steele, Elijah Steele; great grandchildren Isaiah Steele, Trinity Steele, and Sanaya Patton. One sister, Loretta (Ray) Short; three brothers, Willis (Dorothy) Patton, Kenneth (Bonita) Patton, Thomas (Karen) Patton; and a host of other relatives, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Although Daddy, “PawPaw” GrandPa and Brother is gone, he will forever live in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 11am at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home in Danville, KY. with Pastor Jerry Wilkerson officiating. Family will receive friends from 4pm until 7pm on Sunday, November 16, 2025. Arrangements entrusted to Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home. Lester’s final resting place will be at Danville Memorial Gardens. 
 

Pallbearers will be James Crawford, Greg Crawford, Paul Wilkerson, Elijah Steele, Jerry Gooch, Raymond Patton.
 

Honorary pallbearers are Willis Patton, Kenneth Patton and Thomas Patton.
