Mary Smith Obituary

Mary Sue Smith, 86, of Danville, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 6, 1937 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late James and Stella Stamper. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Orrin Smith.

Lee and Mary traveled the world with their family, while Lee served in the Army for over 20 years. Mary would love to take her children and see as many sights as she could while traveling. When in the States, summers were always spent on Herrington Lake, where they loved the most.

Mary is survived by three sons, Danny Smith of Arizona, Bruce Smith (Beth) of Florida, Brian Smith of Danville; three daughters, Elaine Clark (John) of Michigan, Lisa Smith of Utah, Laura Cornett (John) of Louisville; a sister, Sara Herrington (Ron) of Canada; a sister of the heart, Angela Murray (Todd) of Lancaster; two sister-in-laws, Vickie Goodloe of Lexington and Mary Virginia Smith of Harrodsburg; thirteen grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by a brother, James Stamper, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 12 PM on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Moody officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery at 1:30pm. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home.
