McElroy Burdette, Jr., age 71 of Danville, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025, after a brief illness. He was born in Danville, Kentucky, on May 10, 1954, to the late McElroy Burdette, Sr., and the late Roberta Hickman.
He was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church, Danville, Kentucky. And later transferred his membership to Second Street Christian Church in Danville.
Roy, also known as Mac, served his country as a proud Marine and later served in the Kentucky National Guard, from which he retired. He was employed at Northpoint Training Center for 24 years.
He was an avid fan of UK basketball and loved playing the guitar and piano.
Surviving Roy is his devoted wife of 46 years, Donna, two sons: Troy of Danville and Shane (Jamelia) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, two brothers, Charles Hines of Lexington, Kentucky, and Lloyd Deane (Kelly) Burdette of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Roy was affectionately known as Gran Gran to his six grandchildren - Kyren, Jaydon, Roman, Dakota, Callaway, and Ezra. Other survivors are his mother-in-law, Mrs. Arnice Gooch, brother-in-law, Ernest (Terry) Gooch. A special cousin, Louisia Adams, a special friend, Julie Thomas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center, as well as all other Nurses and Doctors who provided excellent care to Roy during his brief illness.
Funeral service will be at 9:00 AM on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be John Hukle, Paul Wilkerson, Barnett Weathers, Elijah Burdette, Julian Burdette, and Norman McGill.
