Nadene May Obituary

Nadene Wade May, 94, of Danville peacefully passed away April 24, 2022. Born in Russell County, Ky in 1927 to the late Wheeler and Ollie Foley Wade, she was reared on the family farm near Goose Creek in Decatur, Kentucky and was the eldest of six children.

Nadene was a proud graduate of Berea Foundation School and Berea College where she met and later married her beloved husband Bernard May. Following college, Nadene worked as a librarian at the Kentucky School for the Deaf for many years.  She continued her dedication to the deaf community acting as an interpreter at her church, The First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She remained active in several programs and services in her church and community, always willing to offer her help where it was needed.

Nadene was preceded in death by her husband Bernard May, her parents, Wheeler and Ollie Foley Wade, and siblings Ralph Wade, Allene Bernard, and Cy Wade.

Nadene is survived by her children, David (Lynn Weaver) May, Karen (Ronnie) Beckman, and Mike (Elena) May, grandchildren Joseph (Vera) Beckman, Sarah Beckman, Rachel (Josh) Atkins, and Mickey May, great grandchildren Emily and Jamie Beckman, Kaylee, Huner and Luka Atkins, sisters Fern (Dewey) Carter, and Nina (Ronald) Butler, sister-in-law Judy Wade and many nieces and nephews.

Burial services will be held at Belleview Cemetery for a graveside service on April 26 at 3:00 PM where family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Nadene May.  A memorial service and celebration of life will be planned for a later date.

Pallbearers will be David, Mike, and Mickey May, Sarah and Joseph Beckman, and Rachel Atkins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Christian Church, Danville, KY, Heritage Hospice, the Danville Boyle County Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff of Morning Pointe for the loving and compassionate care provided to Nadene during her stay.
