Nancy H Sipkema, 77, of Greensboro NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 28th, 2023. Nancy was born on August 18, 1945 in Danville, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Ora Wilson and Gladys (nee Clark) Holtzclaw.
Nancy graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1963 and began her career with IBM as a computer programmer working on the Apollo program at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. She later returned to Danville and married Randal Sipkema on May 28, 1983, recently celebrating 40 years together. They moved to Greensboro, North Carolina in 2018 to be close to their son and grandchildren.
Nancy was completely invested in her family, loving to prepare meals and spend nights together playing games and talking about birds and flowers. She was a doting mother and grandmother and was known as Meema, a name she cherished, by her four grandchildren. Nancy delighted in making Christmas and holidays special. She was a great cook and baker, and recently taught her grandchildren some of her favorite recipes.
Nancy loved the Lord, Jesus Christ and was very active in her church, Friendly Avenue Baptist in Greensboro. She served on the food distribution ministry, the senior choir, and participated in community activities like the Christmas Store and Easter Egg Drop. She made many dear friends in her church community, and loved them all.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Randal, son, Ashley Cook married to Starlene Cook, her four grandchildren, Vesper, Aldrin, Aurora, and Waverly, and her sisters, Jean Steinhauer and Beth (George) Neal.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1pm Monday, August 7, 2023 at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 11am until the service time.
