Paul Stivers Chandler, 102, of Danville, passed away November 4, 2021 at VA Hospital in Lexington. He was born on November 5, 1918 to the late Arthur and Nora Stivers Chandler. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Chandler.
Paul was a WWII veteran, enlisting in November of 1941. He served in the 325th Glider Infantry Regimen of the 82nd Airborne Division. He served during the entire war and landed in France on a glider on D-Day. He earned six battle stars during his time, serving in Italy, France, and the Battle of the Bulge. After returning home from service, Paul founded the Pioneer Opportunity at State Hospital and worked there for many years, serving in many different positions. After retiring at age 70, he worked in the woodwork shop until he was 92.
He is survived by two sons, James A. Chandler of Richmond, Kentucky and Mark Chandler (Chris) of Danville and grandchildren, Steven Paul Chandler and Leiara Goodlett.
Paul is preceded in death by his wife and a son, Alan Keith Chandler.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon on Friday, November 12, 2021 at First Baptist Church on Danville Bypass with Bro. Tim Mathis officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Jack Hendricks, Phil Sammons, and Kenny Merriman.
