Robert Murrel Spalding, 92, of Broomfield, Colorado (formerly of Danville) passed away on January 8, 2025. He was born on April 22, 1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Wesley Spalding and Edna Bonta Spalding. The Spalding, Bonta, and Hourigan families have lived in Kentucky for over 200 years. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Catherine Spalding whom he married on April 9, 1955.
Robert was an Operations Engineer at Continental Can Company, Formica Corporation, and Bueno Foods Corporation, and was a Commercial Pilot. He served his country as a Captain in the US Air Force and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Danville. Robert received his BA in Political Science at the University of Cincinnati in 1954 and his MBA at Xavier University in 1964.
He is survived by a daughter, Cathleen Spalding Burns (Jack) of Erie, CO; a son, Matthew Spalding of Cornelius, NC; four grandchildren, Bryan Burns (Megan Canon), Caitlin Spalding Burns Bump (Stephen) Carynne Spalding Jarrell (Michael), and Katherine Spalding (Brian Booe); and four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Faith Bump, Jackson Robert Bump, Lucas Canon Burns, and Riley Daniel Jarrell.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a son, Robert M. Spalding, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2024, at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sean Gladding officiating with burial to follow at Old Liberty Cemetery in Marion County. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 18, 2024, from 11 AM until the time of the funeral at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to the Salvation Army or Hospice of your choice.
