Heaven gained an Angel. Sherry Jo Carey, passed peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years Jack Carey Sr., as well as her parents, Kathleen and Paul Walker as well as a brother Paul.
Sherry is survived by her three children, Jack Jr., Donna, and Lesa. Sherry was born in Louisville, KY, but spent most of her childhood in Oklahoma before moving to Danville.
Sherry was very active in the Democratic Party where she was appointed a Kentucky Colonel by then Governor, Martha Lane Collins. She was also a pinnacle at the Boyle County Courthouse where she served 22 years working for the Bluegrass Community Action Agency helping people with their daily struggles. While there, Sherry became good friends with then county judge executive, Tony Wilder who named a day in May as Sherry Carey Day.
Sherry was dedicated in helping others, which to this day remains one of her most cherished accomplishments, other than raising three beautiful children, whom she loved fiercely. She was lovingly called scary Sherry by her daughter, Donna.
She loved to laugh, and making others happy. While working, she met Jimmy Owens the then pastor of the Perryville United Methodist Church which became the family church. Sherry’s home was the go to place for all the neighborhood kid’s, at anytime you would find a houseful.
Sherry will be sadly missed by those who loved and knew her, but rest assured she is in Heaven singing with the angels.
Pallbearers will be the staff of Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers are Madeline Markey, Theresa Long, Rose Cunningham, Kellye Milburn, Ronda Napier, Jimmy Owens, Shelia Hensley, Betty Barker, and Kim Leathers.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home with Jimmy Owens officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 AM until service time.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Bellevue Cemetery in Danville, KY.
