Shirley Chumbley, 86, of Danville, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on the morning of November 20, 2024.
A tribute to Shirley Temple Chumbley reveals a life dedicated to her family, particularly her children and grandchildren, who were the center of her universe. Her compassionate nature guided her professional journey in nursing, a field from which she ultimately retired after years of devoted service to the state. Shirley had a passion for exploring the world, with travels spanning from Florida to California. Shirley found joy in visiting casinos, a pastime she cherished as much as her beloved trips to Sanibel Island. She frequently visited Tennessee , where she humorously advised against indulging in the local fudge. Known for her candidness, she expressed her thoughts openly and without reservation. Despite facing significant challenges and pain throughout her life, she embraced these experiences with grace and resilience, embodying the spirit of a queen.
Shirley is survived by her children, Aliece Chapman, Deborah Koenig, and Jerry Wilson; grandchildren, Jason Shoemaker, Michael Chapman, Cytina Sallee, Andrew King, Dongayla Dobson, Shannon Harris, Phillip Wilson, and Justin Wilson; great-grandchildren, Brittany Sallee, Makaylah, Elizabeth, Rook, Triton, Jaxon, Cierra, Ciena, Cirrena, Cilena, Vera, Althea, and Amelia; and a great-great grandchild, Arlo.
Funeral services will be held at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home at 11am on Saturday, November 23, 2024. Visitation will be from 10am-11am on Saturday. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to New Hope Food Pantry in Danville.
