Steven Allen McGirr, 66, of Danville passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022 at UK Hospital. He was born February 8, 1956 in Danville, Kentucky to the late Morris McGirr and Dorothy "Dottie" McGirr of Danville, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Connie Barnett McGirr.
Steve proudly served in the Navy and was a lifelong member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Danville. He owned and operated Kentucky Meat and Seafood for many years. Steve gave a man a second chance at life in 1988, when he saved his life from a burning car, then received his second chance at life on May 30, 2020, receiving a double lung transplant. He never met a stranger and was an avid UK and Steelers fan. Steve was so proud of his children and loved being a Grindaddy to his grandchildren.
Also surviving are sons, Travis McGirr, Bradley Cummins (Augustine), Bryan Cummins, Michael McGirr, all of Danville, and Tyler McGirr (Sol), of Washington State; daughters, Jessica McGirr (Kevin), Misty Wilson (Chris), Lyndsey McGirr (David), Krista McGirr, Sydney DelRosario (Damani) and Alyvia McGirr, all of Danville, grandchildren, Lexie, Jabe, Kingston, Boone, Seraphina, Reese, Harlan, Keene, Stevie, Avery and Yomi; brother, Kenny LeMonds (Sharon) of Danville; sisters Bev McGirr of Danville, Debbie Reynolds (Gene) of Lancaster and Donna Turner of Danville, sister in law, Betty LeMonds and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Morris and a brother, Russell LeMonds.
Funeral services will be 9am Friday, May 6, 2022 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Justin Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 5-9pm at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home on Thursday, May 5, 2022.
Pallbearers will be Travis McGirr, Bradley Cummins, Bryan Cummins, Michael McGirr, Tyler McGirr, Chris Wilson, Damani DelRosario, David Spanyer and Kevin Turner.
Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Our Savior Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to the McGirr Family.
