Viola Edna Hartmann Nolet passed away on December 13, 2022 at the age of 83. Vi was born June 27, 1939 on a 1500 acre diversified farm near Hebron, North Dakota the thirteenth child of Henry and Mary Bender Hartmann. Her life on the farm included work mixed with fun like walking to the field to call in the milk cows and getting to ride on the back of the huge Percheron plow horses, gardening, cooking, sewing and all the chores shared by a big family.
She graduated from Hebron High School on 1957, attended St. Alexis nurses training, then graduated medical technology school in Minneapolis in 1963. Vi met her husband Irving Nolet while he was serving in the Air Force in Bismarck, North Dakota. They were married on September 12, 1964 in Hyde Park, New York and moved back to Delkalb, Illinois to start their life. They welcomed their only child, daughter Jacqueline on May 18, 1966. Jackie and her husband Wally Bremer were lost in 2016 in a fatal head-on collision, but their legacy lives on in grandsons, Joseph and Alex Bremer.
Vi began singing in choirs at age 4 and continued throughout her life, not only in church but local theater and hospital auxiliaries including "Guaze & Applause" and the Methodist Chorale. Although she was self taught piano, she excelled to play both piano and organ in various churches throughout Dekalb County. For over 40 years, Vi worked at the Dekalb Clinic as a laboratory technician. During that time she attended school in Orlando, Florida to become the first certified pollen and mold counter in Illinois. The family had many pets (especially cats), including one special Maine Coon cat and multiple Carin terrier dogs. Through the years there have been several Hartmann family reunions. At one, Vi's parents numbered 46 grandchildren and 463 extended family.
Viola will join her loving husband Irving, her daughter Jackie and son-in-law Wally Bremer, five brothers and seven sisters and their families in life ever after on their heavenly farm, Eleanor and Albert Vastag, Walter (Maria) Hartmann, Esther (Edmond Birckmaier) and Louis Anderson, Martha Hartmann, Frieda and Werner Kinnischtzke, Erwin (Josephine) Hartmann, Albert (Lorraine) Hartmann, Hilda and Warren McCormick, Anna and Amos Gietzen, Henry "Hank" (Orpha) Hartmann, George (Aurelia) Hartmann, and Fredrick Hartmann in infancy.
