Violet Jean Jenkins Abrams, 88, of Junction City, KY passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at her home. She was born on November 8, 1935 in Mercer Co. to the late George and Nona Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Collos Abrams.
Violet was a devoted Christian, wife, and mother to not only her own kids, but hundreds of kids in the Danville community as she spent her career as a homemaker and babysitter. In her later years, she deeply cherished and enjoyed time with her caregiver, Debbie Austin. Debbie and Violet could turn any doctor’s visit into a day trip that typically included Roses in Somerset or Cracker Barrel. She enjoyed spending her spare time reading her Bible along with Amish themed novels, and listening to southern gospel music and preaching especially those she could find on WLJC. At other times she could be found watching the Game Show Network or University of Kentucky sports. And could she ever be competitive with the card game Phase 10! She loved her God, her family, and her community like few others.
Violet is survived by three children, Pam Kendall (Eddie), Mike Abrams (Jennifer), Mitch Abrams (Jill); a sister, Jane Browning; seven grandchildren; Rebecca Patterson (Chad), Brent Kendall, Jessica Brewer (Greg), Landon Abrams, Hunter Abrams (Colby), Holly Carter (Elijah), Titus Abrams (TJ); and nine great-grandchildren, Caeden, Ryker, Kyndal, Easton, Ellyssa, Chase, Emily, Mahari, and Sonora.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Thelma Jenkins, Josie Cook, Treva Lee Hill, and Ruth Ann Bailey.
Services will be held at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home: visitation will be Sunday, January 21 at 5-7pm; funeral will be Monday, January 22 at 1pm.
Service will be officiated by Ronnie Ping and the funeral message will be given, at her request, by her grandson, Hunter Abrams. Special music, also at her request, by her daughter and grandson, Pam Kendall and Brent Kendall.
Pallbearers will be made up of a few of her babysitting kids down through the ages. We have attempted to count all the children she has cared for throughout her 88 years, but we lose count around 200. Pallbearers will be Josh Bertram, Jessie Mattingly, Connor Yates, Chris Scott, Ethan Long, Ryan Milburn, Zoey Milburn, and Levi Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
To know Violet was to love Violet. She will be missed by so many.
